Introduction | How it Works | Phones | Service Plans

For years you've sent written messages through the Internet with email. Now you can do the same thing with your voice messages.

VOIP (or Voice Over Internet Protocol) is the new way to make and receive phone calls. Digicall converts your phone calls into data that zips through your high-speed Internet connection. The big advantage with Digicall is that you can call anywhere at anytime for less money. And it's better than your traditional line because it expands the power of your phone.

Digicall works with any touch-tone phone, corded or cordless. Either way you can make calls to any phone on Earth. The person you're calling doesn't need to have Digicall or an Internet connection on their side. Of course, if they do have Digicall, your calls to them will be free. We send you a free adapter when you sign up for service. Setup is easy. Plug it in and it installs automatically.

When Technologies Collide
To Digicall a voice call is a network application, just like your word processing software and web browser are applications on your PC. Because we're one of the few companies in the world that treat your phone calls that way, we can do things with your call that others can't. Like send your voicemail messages to you as email attachments. Or let you listen to them online.

It's a principle called convergence. People have been talking about it for years, but few have done it. It's your telephone taking on qualities of your PC and your PC taking on qualities of your telephone.

How It Works
Once Digicall harnessed this technology, we realized that a lot of the old silly phone rules just didn't apply. So we don't charge extra for things like Voicemail and Call Waiting. Why should we? We're excited about this service that we wouldn't want you to deny yourself anything. Use it all. The power is yours for the asking. And best of all, it's a bargain.

When you think about it, the Internet is everywhere. And it makes all those imaginary boundaries seem unnecessary. So Digicall local calling areas are bigger, often several area codes wide. Your contacts in Canada somehow seem like closer neighbors when we eliminate your international charges to dial there. And it may even feel surprising to experience an overseas call that costs less than what you used to pay to dial locally. But trust us, like thousands of other Digicall customers, you'll get used to it.

The world is changing fast and it's making your life easier. Digicall brings the future here and now. It's time you took advantage of it. Here are a few examples of how Digicall puts the amazing breakthrough of VOIP to work for you.

Digical Strategy
Internet Voice, also known as Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP), is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. Some services using VOIP may only allow you to call other people using the same service, but others may allow you to call anyone who has a telephone number - including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers.  Also, while some services only work over your computer or a special VOIP phone, other services allow you to use a traditional phone through an adaptor, see Figure 1 above.

VOIP allows you to make telephone calls using a computer network, over a data network like the Internet.  VOIP converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over the Internet then converts it back at the other end so you can speak to anyone with a regular phone number. When placing a VOIP call using a phone with an adapter, you'll hear a dial tone and dial just as you always have.  VOIP may also allow you to make a call directly from a computer using a conventional telephone or a microphone.

VOIP lets you make toll-free long distance voice and fax calls over existing IP data networks instead of the public switched telephone network (PSTN).  Today businesses that implement their own VOIP solution can dramatically cut long distance costs between two or more locations.
